Valentines Day Cookies!

Introduction

Hi there, and thank you for stopping by my blog!

All my life, I always have had artistic skills. I painted both acrylic and oil, on canvas, wood cutouts, frames, you name it. I guess after college, that desire faded away for many years. Now, with two kids in tow, painting became impossible to make time for and having a limited space will not allow you to store paints or space to work in. Someday, I will have the time and space though. Then I realized, one day, it's was in the kitchen.
My sister, Mary, was my inspiration. She started making cakes for her kids and did so well that she began to make cakes for family, friends, and coworkers. She inspired me after making my son's first birthday cake, Winnie the Pooh and Friends (almost 7 years ago). I thought if she can do it, I can do it! Thanks Mary! Just looking at the cakes she has done, inspired me to try to attempt to bake a cake and decorate it. That inspiration was all I needed to bring out my artistic side of me. I always asked my sister for any baking advice and she was there to give it (and still is). I only can thank her for sharing her ideas, tricks, and trades on baking.
Like any artist, baking is my escape from the world. Even though I don't have the time to paint anymore, I can dive into Art with baking. Artist are their own worse critics. Well, for me anyway. I am always having to ask my husband if the cake looks "alright". He says so every time. I trust his judgment. Then, when family and friends, especially my younger sister, Mary, compliments on the cakes, then I am at ease with what I have just created. More so, when they compliment on how the cakes taste! Yes, cakes can look great, but the taste factor is another big thing. I make sure that it has to be tasty and moist (just how I like it). It's stressful in the beginning and throughout the whole baking process, especially with a deadline, but it's sooo worth all that trouble. The end product and compliments always makes me beam with pride, inside. I always am so modest and accepting praise is a little hard for me. I have somewhat out grown that now. I make sure to thanks someone for their complements about the cakes I make. I can only thank my heavenly Father for the talent he bestowed upon me.
I really enjoy planning on how I am going to make the next cake. I look to others for inspiration and ideas, then design my own cakes. I began to make cakes for my son and then for my daughter who later came along. Baking the cakes, as the years came, I felt a little more confident to start baking for someone else. I only just recently branched out to friends to make their cakes.
My first cake: The Train cake. I made yellow cake and frosted with canned frosting. I designed it to look like a long train. Each car had its own candy! It was a lot of fun but I didn't plan well with making the cake right. The time it took to make it was time consuming. After all, it was my first cake. I didn't know what to expect. It wasn't done too well to my high exceptions on how it came out. Although the cake was wasn't perfect in my eyes, I will say it was fun to make it.
My second cake: I bought a plain vanilla cake with extra butter cream frosting from Costco. Then I designed it. My second cake, I call it "Monster Trucks in Mud". It was fairly easy. I was actually good for a beginner, not having any skills with decorating with frosting. My artistic skills made decorating easy when working with the frosting. I couldn't believe the outcome. I was actually...good. Then I decided it's got to be easier (and cheaper) to actually bake the cake at home. Also, the cakes does taste so much better when its homemade and not store bought. So, after decorating my son's cake, I decided that I was going to make the cake at home from then on. Homemade frosting is the best-not that small tub of frosting you can buy at the store.
My son loved his Monster Truck Cake.

So that is a little about me.  I hope you enjoyed looking at what i have created. Thanks again!
